Minutes of January General Meeting summarized by Dave Stark.

No significant business transacted by members. Business meeting shortened to allow time for Red Cross training session.

Club Station report by JJ MacMurray on behalf of Mike Maloy:

$25.00 authorized by Board has not yet been spent.
Tim Moody donated a computer and monitor. We anticipate receiving another donated computer soon.
Mike Maloy is installing software free of charge to the Club.
The MFJ antenna tuner has been repaired. Another tuner is in need of repair, awaiting parts.
Yaesu FT-101 is being repaired by Joe O'Neil - no charge to club for labor. Mike Maloy is donating parts.
The Heathkit will go out for repair after the Yaesu returns.

OLD BUSINESS

  • Bouncing emails: Dave Stark has received very little response to the request for member contact info. 2 email addresses have been removed from the mailing list.
  • February program: Dennis Cote will do a presentation about antennae.
  • Roof antenna work: Dan has not received any estimates from John at Leonard Communications or Todd at Com-Tech Electronics. He received an estimate from Hudson Valley Towers. They requested photos, which Dan provided. They would bring a 16-foot trailer and a crew consisting of 2 climbers and 1 helper. Total labor cost is $200/hour. Travel cost is 50 cents per mile each way (130 miles round trip) plus $50/hour (5 hours). They are booking jobs for Spring now.

NEW BUSINESS

  • JJ will be absent on February 18, so Dan will conduct the general business meeting.
  • Mike Maloy attempted to test streaming scanner audio to RadioReference.com, but Windows 98 is not able to handle this.
  • Fund raising: The roof work and other expenditures requested for Club activities will wipe out the treasury. We need to raise money. While we should have some support from the Broughton Foundation, the Board feels it is unwise to keep this as our only option. Suggestions will be solicited from the members.
  • Field Day: Board members will schedule a meeting with the FD Committee (or at least its Chair) and give them a charge for the year to consider particular issues this year, such as relocation of the FD site.
  • Dayton Hamvention: JJ and April plan to attend and will invite other members to form a caravan. They are also interested in exploring a group reservation for any SMARA members that are going to Dayton this year.
  • Publicity: Dan will create a Facebook presence for SMARA.

Meeting adjourned at 20:25 by unanimous consent.

Respectfully submitted by David Stark, NF2G, SMARA Secretary
