Dues
Treasurer surveyed amateur radio club dues. The lowest she found in our region is $20.00 per year. Our dues have been $5.00 per year for decades. SMARA faces several expenses that our treasury cannot accommodate, such as rooftop antenna work at the Museum and possible repeater maintenance or replacement. SMARA has been unable to provide customary club services due to the expense, such as production and mailing of a newsletter and other routine postal mailings and copying. In addition, if we lose access to our current repeater site, relocation would most likely incur site rental fees. In our current financial situation, we simply would cease to operate a repeater. The club has been in a constant "garage sale" mode for several years, and this year to date we have generated NO income from equipment sales. Getting money from the Broughton Foundation has been problematic for a long time. The officers have found no reason to expect this to change any time soon. The Board proposes an increase of annual SMARA dues to $15.00, to take effect on September 1, 2010, and to retain and affirm the customary practice of allowing multi-year memberships at the current rate as of the time of payment. This means that members may purchase multi-year memberships at $5.00 per year until the annual picnic. A member vote on the proposed dues increase shall take place at the June general meeting. The next Board meeting will be on Thursday, July 1. The location is under discussion and will be announced shortly.
Meeting adjourned at 20:58 by unanimous consent.
Respectfully submitted by David Stark, NF2G, SMARA Secretary
